Hanami

Hanami

This year's hanami was a bit earlier than last year because it was such a mild winter. It was actually the first winter on record (records began about 180 years ago) that it did not snow in Tokyo between December and March.

It did actually snow in early April much to everyone's surprise but everyone soon forgot about that as they turned out in force to enjoy the cherry blossoms. This year I made it to Shinjuku Gyoen which is a very well kept and stunning park and gardens. There is a small charge to get in and although I imagine it is normally very quiet and peaceful at this time of year every inch of grass is covered with mats and their owners, young and old alike.
