There is a good introduction to Go over at Senseis Library, including rules of the game, old traditions with theories as to how they started, and plenty of exercises to get the old grey cells working.
Senseis Library is a Wiki devoted to Go. If you haven't heard of a Wiki before it is a web site that lets anyone edit its pages. There is a wide community posted to this site, so there is a wide range of useful information.
